WordPress hosting UK: what you actually need

Most UK websites run WordPress. That is why “WordPress hosting UK” is what people type when they are ready to buy, not “cloud NVMe” or a control-panel brand.

You do not need a special WordPress-only product with a different logo on the box. You need a stack that does not fall over when a plugin updates, a backup you can restore, and a human in your time zone when checkout breaks on a Saturday.

What actually matters

  • Cache that works with WordPress. LiteSpeed + LSCache (or an equivalent page cache that plays nicely with common plugins) is worth more than a “unlimited” claim.
  • Daily off-site backups with a restore you can do without a support lottery.
  • UK-based support who have seen a white screen of death before. Not a script that tells you to disable all plugins and call back.
  • The real price. A £1 intro that renews at £14.99 is not cheap hosting. It is a trap. Ask what you pay in month 13.
  • Room to grow. WooCommerce, page builders and a membership plugin will outgrow a 512MB starter plan. You should be able to add CPU and RAM without migrating.

What you can ignore (at first)

Control-panel wars. cPanel vs Webuzo vs Plesk is a religious argument. Buyers care that they can install WordPress in one click, create a mailbox, and not lose the site. The panel is a tool, not the product.

A UK datacentre stamp on the homepage, on its own. Latency to British visitors is real, but a well-connected European datacentre plus a CDN will often beat a cheap UK box on a congested link. What you should not ignore is who answers the ticket.

WooCommerce is a different job

A brochure site and a shop are not the same workload. If you take card payments, run sales, or lean on heavy plugins, start on a larger plan or be ready to boost resources for a campaign. Staging (or at least a backup you trust) before plugin updates is not optional.

How we run WordPress at Spire

Our WordPress hosting UK plans are the same live packages as our UK web hosting — LiteSpeed, NVMe, free SSL, daily backups — from £2.95 a month, with the first month at £1 on eligible plans using code FIRSTONE. The ongoing price is the price. Support is UK-based, from Chesterfield.

Hardware sits in a carbon-neutral European datacentre. We are a UK company. If you want us to handle updates and content as well as the metal, a Care Plan sits on top.

Already on another host? Ask us about a free migration. We will move files, the database and email, then help with DNS so you are not left staring at a parked page.
